Mill Springs Academy Upper School

Alpharetta, Georgia
The Mill Springs Upper School, designed in association with Dowling Architects, is the newest addition to the Mill Springs Academy. The purpose of the school is to educate learning impaired students in a setting that encourages one-on-one instruction and utilizes the latest technologies in classroom teaching. The overall design of the Upper School is evocative of a mountain lodge. While the classrooms are intimate in scale, much emphasis has also been placed upon providing interior and exterior gathering spaces. Included in the facility's design are two great rooms, multiple commons areas, two science labs, and twenty-three classrooms, as well as additional staff and support areas. Each classroom has a closed-circuit cable television and multiple laptop computer connections to optimize instruction capability. Great attention has been given to the durability of materials, the quality of light, the warmth of the interior details and finishes, and the acoustical quality of the building.
