Jonesboro, Georgia
Perched atop a heavily wooded ridge in the Clayton County International Park, the Jonesboro Senior Center provides a sense of tranquility to its visitors. The crescent shaped plan is designed to complement the natural contours of the site and to provide views to the lake beyond. The facility is organized into three main components: exercise, administrative and classroom, and multi-purpose. A covered dropoff is provided at the main entrance. A secondary entrance is provided at the multi-purpose wing for after-hours activities. Parking is provided along the front of the building for ease of accessibility. The lodge inspired building has wrap-around porches that meander along both the front and back of the building. At the back of the building, walking trails and a large terrace overlook the lake beyond. Among a multitude of activities, visitors can relax by reading a book from the library, exercise in the therapeutic pool, or learn new skills in a computer class.
