This 1,520 sf retail building is part of our firm's continued evolution of projects in the vibrant Virginia Highlands neighborhood.
Given the project's urban site and the historical sensitivities of the neighborhood, it was necessary to be actively involved in negotiating the project through various zoning and city ordinance issues. Great effort was also given to representing both the client and the neighborhood's interests in the design of the building and site.
The building's scale, proportions, attention to detail, color, and material integrity draw from the checkerboard of influences in the neighborhood, both old and new, giving it a timeless quality. Since the building has been zoned for both commercial and restaurant use, it has been structured so that a mezzanine level can be added to the double-height interior space to accommodate a future restaurant.
